Monty's captains picks good for team USA!

The European Ryder Cup team was finalized yesterday and a couple marquee players got snubbed.

The automatic qualifiers for the Euro’s were; Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Francesco Molinari, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson.  And Monty’s picks are; Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Eduardo Molinari.

That's good news for team USA!  Harrington has Ryder Cup experience but his 0-7-2 record is extremely lacking.  And, Harrington has only two top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this year and he hasn’t won an event since 2008.  Same for Donald, who has only one top 10 in his last seven PGA Tour starts.

Better picks would have been Paul Casey, who is ninth in the World Rankings and is a match play machine, going runner-up the past two years in the WGC-Accenture Match Play.  And Justin Rose is a two-time winner this year, and paired brilliantly with Ian Poulter in the ’08 matches.  Currenlty both are in better form, and would have been better picks.
