Important week for Ryder Cup & FedEx Cup playoffs

Ryder Cup picks and the FedEx Cup playoffs are on the line this week at the Wyndham Championship.

Anthony Kim needs to have a great week to strengthen his case for the US Ryder Cup team.  Thumb surgery in May cost him three months of down time.  He’s struggled in tournaments he’s played since returning, finishing 16-over at the WGC-Bridgestone and missing the cut last week at the PGA.  That dropped him off the list of automatic qualifiers and placed his fate in the hands of Captain Pavin.

One thing Kim won’t have to worry about: making it to the playoffs. He’s currently No. 14 on the FedEx Cup points list.   Among those looking for a last-minute point’s boost is Trevor Immelman.  He’s at No. 154 – 113 points outside No. 125.  And other notables needing a good week to make the playoffs; Mike Weir at No. 126 and Henrik Stenson at No. 133.
