The Honda Classic is the first event of the Florida swing…and it’s hosted by Jack Nicklaus. Here are some of the happening events and the first rounds scores…
Drew Brees played in the Pro-Am before the Honda Classic with Nicklaus, Dan Marino and Kenny G…a perk after winning the Super Bowl title. Brees, can play to a 3 handicap, and said it was the first time he’s played since June. And he was nervous to play with the 18-time major winner.
Nathan Green and Michael Connell hold the first round lead with a 5-under 65. Oliver Wilson, Camilo Villegas and Alexandre Rocha are one shot back at 4 under. VJ Singh, Bubba Watson and D.J. Trahan are all two shots back at 3-under. Singh was once the world’s No. 1 player, and ranked No. 5 less than two years ago. Now he has fallen to No. 35 in the world.
And PGA Champion and defending Honda champ YE Yang ended up with an opening round 79…and for him it was a day to forget.
